Big news: we bought tickets to Australia! I’m so excited and scared but mostly excited. We don’t leave till next month and we will be spending our time in Spain until we leave as we fly from Malaga.
Ideally, I would like to have my backpack as hand luggage and I did buy the Osprey Farpoint 40L for that purpose however, because we have to change flights three times it means that the hand luggage allowances change and I can’t deal with the stress of some airlines potentially saying no to me.
This post shows what is in my backpack that I take and carry everywhere with me and can hopefully be helpful to those travelling or leaving the country. I carry everything that I need and use so there is nothing unnecessary (in my opinion, I should add).
As mentioned above I use the Osprey Farpoint 40L backpack which I have reviewed previously that you can read here.
The only things not included here are what I will be wearing when going to the airport which is: gym leggings, bra (far too bulky to pack), tshirt and walking boots.
I use a packing cube to keep my clothes all together and it is really useful so that everything stays together and you don’t have clothes falling out whenever you open it. However, I do find that they take up a lot of space in your backpack. Mine takes up a good portion, I would say it takes over half of the main body of my backpack.
Clothes wise, I have enough to last me a week, most occasions and weather. I have a day dress that can easily be worn in the evenings and a long sleeve and skirt combo that also is a smarter outfit.
My underwear is in the smaller bag and I have 7 underwear, 5 socks and a bralet which all pack away nice and small.
I have a pretty large toiletry bag however, I carry both mine and my boyfriends toiletries. I also wear contact lenses and recently had to buy some more solution which means I have two of those to carry around which is annoying. Other than that we just have the basics; deodorant, sun cream, toothpaste. I also have my menstrual cup which I would highly recommend over anything else!
The rest is all pretty self explanatory, first aid kit, sleeping bag, sandals, water bottle, waterproof bag cover and also makeup. Some people may not pack makeup but I do have just a few basics because I’m still not quite ready to be without it yet.
The above is only my hand luggage when on the plane as it normally fits in my bag but as it is mostly electronics I don’t put it into the hold luggage. I’ve got a diary, notebook (made out of cow dung which is pretty cool), passport, headphones, purse, laptop and then a bag of electronics. This has my camera, gopro, adapter, and all other electronics you might carry. I pack this is my foldaway backpack which is so perfect for travelling because it packs down so small when it’s not being used.
The backpack weighs around 7/8kg and I’m guessing my hand luggage is relatively light so I can safely say I collectively have less than 10kg which isn’t bad at all!
And that is what I have packed without knowing where I would be travelling and so far it has been all I have needed. Similarly I wrote a blog post about what you don’t need to pack whilst travelling and my five must haves. I will see you on Wednesday with my next post! Thank you for reading 🙂
